Launch for December 2019

Dear Stakeholders,

We are glad to report that following 12 months’ preparation, the construction of our Raxio Data Centre at the Kampala Industrial Park, Namanve has started.

Roko Construction, Uganda’s largest construction company, was awarded the contract to undertake all civil works. The civil, electrical and all associated works will take 9 months and the data centre is expected to go live, in December 2019.

Key Raxio Data Centre Highlights

  • Raxio Data Centre Ltd (https://www.raxio.co.ug/), is a First Brick Holdings’ (FBH) company (https://www.firstbrick.io/); itself a portfolio company of US-based investment firm, Roha Group Inc.
  • The Raxio data centre will be the first carrier neutral, Tier III, colocation data center in Uganda
  • Raxio will build its data center in three phases: in Phase 1, the data center will house 135 racks, and will double to 270, in Phase 2. The third and final phase will add an additional 130 racks, making it a total 400.
  • This shall require an investment of approximately $15 million over its life-cycle.
  • The data center will be certified to Tier III standards.
  • Pre-sales is underway – on 07th February 2019 Raxio signed Hamilton Cloud Services (HCS), Uganda’s first local cloud service provider and a subsidiary of Hamilton Telecom.

Dr Twinemanzi challenged the financial services sector to adopt a shared technology services delivery model, thereby cutting down the cost of doing business and pass on those benefits to customers in form of reduced cost of lending.
